  1. The Rocktron is just one example if you really want flat investigate the FRFR powered speakers. Rewiring a cab is fairly simple if you know what you have and what you want to achieve in ohms. Cabs do color the tone, materials, speakers, design.... etc. and depending on one's ears not in a bad way.
  2. If what I read was correct, it has no 1/4" ins or outs. So you would have to run the XLRs in and probably run the outs to a PA style speaker as it has Speakon outs. To me it would be a no go. 100 - 150 watts into a 4 ohm cab gets REAL loud. For SS power amps the Rocktron Velocity is always a good choice.
  3. Just a guess - but there is a ribbon cable that connects the mainboard to the exp pedal sub-board (IIRC) it might have come loose and needs to be seated. Its been a bit since I had one apart.
  4. Nico, IMO Guthrie is in a level by himself. :)
  5. Spider Valve = Pod into a tube power amp = awesome. :) That said I prefer the HD into a SS power amp and cab. Lately I 've been digging the response from closed back cabs. Why? Time and curiosity. An HD through a FRFR is an excellent way to go as well - portable, light weight & the patches should be able to go straight to the PA. Bottom line is try a trip through tube land as it might do it for you. As long as you can borrow or not break the bank, it is fun (power soak anyone!). :D IMO the 4CM is a hassle unless you have an amp that has that killer pre that must be used. Otherwise straight into the fx in jack it goes. Less cables to trip on too. :)
  6. You have to Authorize the UX2 via L6 License Manager as it is the Dongle for using PF. You didn't receive a standalone license for PF. If its something on the L6 end you will need to shoot an email at them.
  7. SRV just had that mojo, even on the Bowie stuff that cat rocked.
  8. I like the shredster skills but I need some improve in there. Sweeping through the arps does get a bit numbing on the ears after a while. Never google up the 6 year Korean girl nailing a acoustic classical number. Oooooomph! The slap of reality stings. :D
  9. I don't have win10 but there should be a "select output" tab somewhere in there to set it for the soundcard. I think it still uses the ASIO4ALL driver too.
  10. As you have the 4CM going, so you can use the amp's pre, IMO the TS would go in the signal chain just prior to the amp's main input. Though TBH based on your last post you have some thinking to do. :)
  11. I still "think" that we are in the wait and see phase. Digitech is long over due for a RP amp overhaul (the 360XP doesn't really count) the Zoom 5n is a step in the right direction (when they took the cue for an Ashbass mod style footswitch layout) but they still need to go a bit further. The HD is pretty much the best in that price range for new and I would not doubt that they would like to hold that slice of the market. When is Namm? bwahahahaa!!! ;) It depends on the margins, R&D funds blah, blah, blah.
  12. The best way would be to try both. I like studio direct but there are others that like using the HDs pres. There really is no right or wrong way as long as it sounds good.
  13. You should try reflashing the the unit and hope its just a memory error that a rewrite will fix.
  14. Man, I couldn't tell you off-hand I've cracked the manual a few times and that is about it.
  15. I don't have a Spider Jam but if it uses the older models (PF/XT/X3) see what the patch is comprised of and see if the main amp is in the metal pack for the HD. L6 did a good job of porting the models over. You might be able to surpass it. :)
  16. If you are really really new I would just go with the FPP until you put in some more time. No sense throwing $ at things until you know which direction you want to go. XT's usually don't come with the foot controller (the FBV) the XT Live has it built in. Amps? there are soooOOoooo many out there but both links were for heads only you would still need to pick up a cab for them. Personally I would pass on either. The MP4 while a trusty old boy is not really what you want while the VSS 20 is under powered at 20 W. Solid State IMO should be preferably 50-60 watts. A 1x12 Valvestate Marshall combo is usually a good metal head's amp. My old 8080 could peal paint and it sounded great on its own, clean and OD. Best thing to do is grab your guitar and go try a bunch out. Evaluate your needs and choose wisely.
  17. It is going straight into the power amp and bypasses the pre-amps of whatever amp they have on stage. I used a Tech 21 Power Engine 60 like that, for it is a power amp only 1x12 combo that was just mic'd. Not as impressive as a 4x12 but at ~ 30 lbs it allowed for a quick on/quick off solution and sounded great with an XT Live. Its tough being in the middle of a multi-band bill and trying to get your gear off the stage while the next band is piling theirs on. :) Good Luck and Rock On!
  18. Now that my man is probably the biggest flaw in "self-styled" critical thinkers. Blanket statements regarding trust, faith, fear and politics to be nuzzled under the term fact. Nietzsche - There are no facts, only interpretations. No offense taken from this narrow minded Lutheran :D
  19. Still love the XT and the tones it can deliver myself - If I read the above correct (its early so if I am wrong say so) you have 3 amps you can plug the XT into and want to see what the amp's options are not the XTs. IMO I would just go straight into the FX loop to avoid using any of the amp's pre-amps (as good as they are) if only to avoid knob twiddling prior to a set. In theory you want to pop the XT/FBV on stage plug in and go (after adjusting the Master Vol on the XT so you are not deaf after 5 seconds) :) Another option is going direct to the PA: IIRC the XT Bean and Pro have balanced outs and the XT Live doesn't (DI for long runs). Its been too long since I even saw a JCM combo so I can't comment.
  20. I don't think that amp has an FX loop but if it does, go in there. The Pod is probably driving the amp's pre even on the cleans. That said going in the front of an amp can work but you have to set it as neutral as can be. No drive, all tones at say 5. When you go looking for an amp be sure it has an fx loop - it will allow you to go straight to the power amp and just use the Pod's sims. Love Peavey stuff myself. :) I like the FPP but it is pretty much the same as the 2.0 you should stick with the XT you said you were getting next week - it is a bigger step in the metal direction.
  21. PianoGuy gave us a pretty useful method of normalizing patches using an MP3 player. (Hope I get this right :) ). Using a MP3 player play a track into the aux in of the HD then you adjust the individual patch volumes to the volume of the track being played. That should get you in the ball park. Some amps just have that extra oomph. Hope that helps. Bill
  22. Sorry Dude, its HD to HD for presets as far as I have ever seen.
