  1. CTRL > S is your friend in Windows... Command > S on a Mac...
  2. Yes, the Helix acts as a buffer. With 4cm you do not have to worry about cable length, within reason of course.
  3. IME... as far back as midi goes, sending sysex messages is best done directly to the device, or using a midi splitter. Midi Thru has always provided unpredictable results. IE: You got lucky with your initial setup :)
  4. The "Legacy - Blue Comp and Blue Comp Treb" is a great emulation of the CS-1, but sadly it's a CS-1 and not a CS-2 or even a CS-3. The CS-1 is a great effect for very specific tones.... but it's a lousy compressor! (Just my opinion) IMO... for stomp compression on the Helix I like the Red Comp (Dyna Comp) and the Kinky Comp (SP Comp)... or from the Legacy side, the Boost Comp.
  5. Why would that surprise you? Everybody has a different method for normalizing their setups... and they may all differ from your approach. Some might run their outputs at line level, others at instrument. Some might keep their main volume at 1/2, others at full. That hasn't even touched on the countless variations of how a person might monitor their tone. Any of those choices will alter how "loud" their create their presets. There is no right or wrong way, you just need to be prepared to adjust things for your use.
  6. I have played multi-fx for decades (my first was a ROLAND/BOSS GP-8 in the late 80's)... and I have always encountered gaps when changing presets. I always got around this by making changes in appropriate moments (when I'm not playing). Enter the Helix... and Snapshots. Voila, gapless switching as long as I plan my presets accordingly. With 32 blocks and endless routing capabilities, there is no reason you can't keep everything within a preset for a full song or multiple songs. Once you wrap your head around it, it is quite powerful - and easy! It just takes some getting used to a new way of doing things. This helped me set the workflow straight in my mind but we are all different. Maybe it helps you, maybe it won't :) Preset: this loads a pedal board, it's default settings and it's routing configuration. Snapshots: These allow you to alter the default settings and block on/off status for each preset. IE: They are "presets" for your "presets". There are 8 snapshots available per preset on a Helix. (3 on an HX Stomp and 4 on an HX Effects) Stomp Mode: This provides individual stomp access to your favorite effects in the pedal board configuration. Since version 2.8, any or all of these can have their on/off status de-coupled from Snapshots, IF you want to keep them separate.
  7. I was just started out (within my first year of playing)... checked that very book out of the library and learned those same "boxes". I renewed it as long as I was allowed... returned it for the allotted "week" then would check it out again. I "shamefully" admit that I did tear out the floppy record and kept it for myself :) Pat Thrall was a huge part of those memorable years.... as was "Tommy Aldridge" on drums. However, don't under-estimate Pat Travers, he was around for many years before Thrall, and continued just fine without Thrall.
  8. I am assuming you are requesting that the "tap tempo" could be assigned to an external outlet so it can be used as an tap tempo for pedals that accept that. I agree that might be handy... https://line6.ideascale.com/ is the place to make a feature request like this. It looks like there has been a suggestion for this... but it has not received many votes. You can vote this one up.... or submit a new one that is reworded so people can understand the benefit more. https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/CV-output-ability-to-send-tempo-pulses/782984-23508 That aside, the tempo is send via MIDI... of course, that will only work with effects that have midi, and will receive the appropriate CC values.
  9. +1 to the OP. I'm in Canada... due to distributor agreements I need to go through my distributor - but Line 6 was still there when I needed them most. When I had problems they worked with my distributor to make sure this customer stayed 100% happy :) I am never one to buy extended warranty on products, but I felt differently in this case. Again, I need to go through our local distributor - but their program is great! 100% service coverage with a loaner... I also have theft coverage and accidental (aka - beer spillage) coverage for what I consider a nominal fee. That last item is bonus - considering how many stages I play on with drunk patrons just feet away from my Helix - often holding their drinks up to cheer the band! (arghhhh!) I've never needed the coverage, but I have peace of mind!
  10. Even though I don't use global EQ, I wouldn't be against this - I could see it being handy. That said, old habits die hard for me and my age old method (since the 80's) for storing settings would work perfectly fine for this. I always keep a notepad and pen/pencil in my gear bag... writing down the settings for each room really wouldn't take long. Recall wouldn't take longer than 30 seconds to enter in the settings... you just couldn't change them on the fly, but that isn't the job of the global EQ anyway. I'm NOT saying it's the perfect solution in this day and age.. I'm just providing a quick and dirty method for achieving what you are after :)
  11. Odd.... unless the 2.8 update changed my LT, it has the option to turn Touch Select on/off. I wonder why they didn't offer that for the Stomp. I love touch select when I am editing the machine - but I need to turn it off for day to day use.
  12. I know the post is a couple months old, but that's sounds like a wrong setting on the FS-7. There isn't much to those, they are just basic operation - providing you have the options set properly. Both switches must be set for momentary. If set to latch... it would be the same as pushing and holding it down. If they still scroll - reverse the polarity. Do this on both switches and make sure both switches are set to the same polarity!
  13. Slightly off topic, but I converted my old Silver Stripe (Black Box) Bandit into a pseudo FRFR. I rarely need a cabinet on stage (stage monitors or IEM's usually do the job) so I didn't want to spend much on something. I already had the Bandit so I loaded it up with an Eminence BETA 12LTA Coax Full Range speaker. I plug the Helix into the FX Return (bypassing the pre-amp) and control volume from the big knob on the Helix... it works great. I also added a "tweeter defeat" switch to the speaker. A quick flick of the switch and I can use it as a normal amp if needed.
  14. Don't be dissing the back bacon - eh!
  15. That is exactly how I took Soundog's comment as well. It worked beautifully regardless of the position it was on. I thought it was quite humorous. For the record... I'm in Canada, I don't have any dogs in this fight, and I'm not willing to enter any :)
  16. OK... your point was made... But please consider the danger.... The majority of people that buy a helix will not be expecting 9v of power on that input. If they accidentally plug the cable "only to the ring position" that will place 9v of power on their pickups, or their wireless output, or external effects, or ???? I don't know any company that puts power on a standard input... I don't think any company wants that type of liability. IMO: The action of plugging into an XPS is deliberate. Forcing it onto unsuspecting buyers is dangerous.
  17. Where in the world did you get that idea? The Helix Floor, Helix LT and Helix Rack can all power a Variax guitar through the VDI port... just as the HD500, X3 and Xt did. Nothing has changed in that regard. (Edit: Arghhhh. @phil_m beat me to it :) ) If you are talking about the XPS power supplies.... no POD or Helix has ever had that type of power capability. I'm at a loss about not wanting to have to carry a special VDI cable for the Variax. To power it with an XPS you need a TRS cable, a standard cable, an XPS box and the power supply for the XPS. Even the solution you suggest still requires a TRS cable... why not use VDI? This makes me wonder if you really know the benefits of the VDI port in a live situation. Hint: It has nothing to do with "workbench".
  18. I thought it sounded like a positive, yet honest view of the speaker. Exactly what I would prefer reading over the usual "glowing endorsements" I see.
  19. The original link is working fine for me...
  20. Depending on a company's primary distributor location, there will be loop holes to get around the tariffs. The hardest hit are US based company's that have products manufactured in China.
  21. Ahh yes, I keep forgetting that some of those legacy effects force you into the stereo realm. You could just live with the two sides being different... but they would be a little different! Maybe not enough to matter, but that's hard to say. Does the "mono effects send" (used to go to your amp) not collapse the signal to mono already? Or are you putting that send before the reverb?
  22. The Origin Effects Revival Drive is multiple drive styles... not just one. IMO... the touch sensitivity is in the HX as are the blend controls, choose the drives wisely depending on the tones you are after. I'd start by looking at the Timmy (Tee-mah), King of Tone (Tone Sovereign) and Prince of Tone (Heir Apparent). The Klon (Minotaur) is also a great option for some of the tones I heard in the Revival's demos. Looks like a great pedal... but IMO... the HX should be able to accomplish most (if not all) of what I've heard
  23. All you can do is download the latest Helix LT manual, then reference the additions/changes from all the updates since that version. Not German... but this site usually keeps an updated list of amps and effects... it currently included the models from the 2.8 update. Amp List: http://dshowmusic.com/line-6-helix-amp-models/ Effects List: http://dshowmusic.com/line-6-helix-effect-models/ It also has links for updated cabinet and mic lists as well.
  24. Are you running stereo at all? It doesn't look like it to me. If not... make sure all effects are inserted as "mono" and your Left / Right Outputs will already be the same.
  25. I can't imagine 5C being a problem for anything.... that's about 41F. Depending on humidity levels, condensation as the room warms might be a concern, but even then, 5C shouldn't be cold enough to be a problem in this regard. From Page 2 of the manual... "This apparatus should only be used at temperatures between 0° and 50° C." That's operational use.... storage use would be a wider range than that.
