'Electronics' is a pretty broad and vague term. If you mean the modeling technology, that's an easier answer. The modeling technology was improved on the JTV series of Variax guitars. The older Variaxes (300, 500, 600, and 700) all shared the same technology, and all the JTV guitars (59, 69, 89 and their various flavours) share the same improved technology. EDIT: I'm sure there are some Variax owners who feel that the original pre-JTV guitars still sound better at least for some models, and that the 'improvement' was no such thing. It's all subjective when it comes to sound, but certainly in terms of processor power, memory capacity, and digital features the JTV is an improvement.

Yes, the master level on the big knob is global. Most amps have two volume related parameters called Volume and Master. The Volume controls amp channel volume (hence overall patch/preset volume) and does not affect tone. This is the one you should use to balance levels among presets. The Master volume level does affect tone; you should not use it to level volumes. You can also use the Vol pedal dynamically to adjust overall preset volume. You will need to experiment with this on different presets; I'm not sure if the current Vol pedal position is saved when the preset is saved and then restored to the saved setting regardless of the actual physical pedal position at the time of recall.

QUESTION: How can I use the POD HD 500 to mic my cab?
silverhead replied to Damien19's topic in POD HD
Try using this preset: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/215659/ The important thing here is to keep the two channels entirely separate. You can change the amp/FX selections and move them around as long as you don't change the structure of the preset. Make sure the HD500 mixer pans the two channels fully L/R to keep them separate. In your DAW, select only the microphone channel (L or R) as the record input source for the track. Note that you will hear both channels through headphones connectd to the HD500 but only the mic channel will be recorded. I've never done this myself so I'm not 100% sure this will do what you want. The only potential issue I can see is feedback, but I don't think that will happen. As a precaution, I would begin with the mic input level very low and increase it slowly. -
Wanted to buy the new HD Models bundle but had to pay 24$ in taxes

Well then, I'm sure you're sending the required amount to your state's revenue agency. -

Thanks for the info. Used car sales by individuals are taxed in my province (Ontario, Canada - we have provinces, not states). So it's pretty clear that tax policies vary from region to region within countries, let alone across international borders. And it's not something Line 6 has anything to do with. -
If it is active, it's not visible or adjustable. There's no Firehawk parameter equivalent to the InputZ on the Pod HD.

So what about used car sales? Are they taxed at the time of ownership transfer? I know it's not really relevant to the topic - but just curious. -
I'm not recommending anything, but just an observation..... You mention 'we' which suggests you are not performing solo. I wonder how much the audience would notice or care if you stopped playing the verse/chords after beat 1 or 2 of the last bar before your solo. That would give you ample time to switch presets during your guitar's silence and hit the solo with the new preset right on cue. Again, not a recommendation - just an example of how one could adapt if so desired.

I find that being disconnected from the app speeds things up a lot, not just a little. Still the lag is noticeable and is slightly more than the lag with the Pod HD. I think whether or not it's a problem depends on your personal preference in patch setup and playing style. If you set things up so that you don't have to change mid-song, it won't be a problem at all. If you do need to switch patches mid-song then you can arrange your playing so that there's a brief gap in your playing while switching patches so that the lag is not noticed. The only problem comes if you arrange things so that you MUST change patches so that the new patch NEEDS to be heard within a few milliseconds of pressing the footswitch. Some Pod HD owners have reported that the lag is unacceptable for them. I would expect correspondingly more Firehawk owners to feel this way. Still, I think most owners could adapt their preset setup or playing so that the lag is not a problem.

For instance, every time you pay cash to a friend or acquaintance to buy a used item (or through your local kijjijji or craigslist or whatever....) you are technically responsible for submitting the associated sales tax to the authorities. Are you likely to be apprehended and charged with tax fraud? No - but the point is that you are technically required to do so. EDIT: One of the most common tax evasions occurs with private sales of used cars. Transfer of ownership at the Dept of Motor Vehicles requires a receipt and associated sales tax is payable on the value of the receipt. It is common practice for the seller to issue the receipt with a much lower purchase price than was actually charged. In return, a slightly higher sale price is agreed to by the buyer. -
L3T: Distortion on sustained notes. ugh!
silverhead replied to hobbes40's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Try different setups to try to isolate the problem to a specific device or connection. For instance, it would be interesting to know whether this also happens with the HD500 analog outputs connected to the analog inputs on the rear panel of the L3t. In other words, is this a symptom of the L6 LINK connection itself, or is it something more general with the L3t or the HD500?- 9 replies

I'm curious - why do you think you are hearing the mic sim, and how do you know it is not something else that's not sounding good? As has been pointed out, there is actually no mic sim being applied in your setup.

Probably a droid issue. Is your droid on the list of supported Android devices? http://line6.com/firehawk-fx-multi-effects-pedal/specs/

I remember with the X3 Live product there was a hardware issue with the USB chip that was only problematic with certain chipsets on the connected PC. Some X3 users never experienced any problem unit they upgraded to a new computer. Suddenly a latent hardware issue in the X3 became evident. I know this is not an exact analogy, but the point is that hardware problems can show up later rather than sooner in some cases.

I think you are already in edit mode. If I understand correctly, the display shows the FX. Try touching one of the visible FX. It's parameter screen should appear, and you can edit the parameter settings.

How to use the effects loop on the back of the X3 Pro with a stompbox
silverhead replied to 357mag's topic in POD X3
Try using the X3 FX Return Left, corresponding to the Send Left. -
You only need to buy the pack(s) once. The License Manager will let you authorize both devices to use the pack(s).

What do you mean by the effects screen? What do you see?

Just curious - is the Firehawk app running on your mobile when you experience the delay? If so, try shutting down the app - that will close the Bluetooth connection, increasing responsiveness of the device. As long as the Bluetooth connection is in place the device is communicating with the app before completing the preset change - and Bluetooth is slow.

Assigning parameters to FX knob or expression pedal?
silverhead replied to ericlv's topic in Firehawk
I believe that horizontal bar allows you to set the min and max positions for the pedal or FX knob assigned to the selected FX parameter. It operates like a visual range selector with 0% full left and 100% full right. Position the desired min (heel) and max (toe) visually. -
Setup my 2 new L3t speakers

That's what I/we do.... but being in my early 60's I prefer to just handle the peg. :D -
Just to clarify re: number of simultaneous FX. You are right that there are only 5 fully flexible FX blocks. However, these exclude the always available Wah, Vol, and FX Loop. On the HD500 these 3 are among the assignable 8. So I think it's more accurate to say that both devices have up to 8 simultaneous FX blocks, but the HD500 has more flexibility with their assignment and routing. The location of the footswitches has been a bit of an issue for me too. I have several times thought I was turning an FX on/off when in fact I had mistakenly switched presets. Quite confusing, and awkward in a gig situation. You need to be very careful to use the FX switches with the toes/ball of your foot and keep you heel lifted. If your sole is flat you run the risk of switching presets.

M20D Should I keep my order or cancel?
silverhead replied to hippiecow's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Well I have to say it's not helpful to be repeating admittedly unsubstantiated rumours from unnamed sources. I heard a rumour that those rumours are false, but can't tell you where I heard it and I don't know if it's true.- 33 replies

Just curious - do you have the device connected to your PC via usb when you experience these lags? If so, try disconnecting the usb and compare results.

I am curious (but admittedly uninformed) about poly-phonic pitch shifting FX. Are there any such devices by any manufacturer that do this well? Seems to me a difficult task. Easy enough with one note - the device can easily determine the single pitch and alter it accordingly. But with a guitar chord, including up to six distinct pitches and all the harmonic overtones that go along with them..... seems to me a rather complex and perhaps time consuming analysis. I think the result would be a discordant mess delivered with an unacceptable delay. I would expect it to sound pretty much like you describe - horrible. But, perhaps there are some that do the job well?
