Hey Ed, Welcome to the forums too! I've done this for S&Gs in the ole basement into some old (but trusty) Peavey amps. If your amp has an FX loop (line in/line out) run the HD's outs into the amps's ins - just watch out and start with the HDs volume set low as you are direct into the power section. Follow what Rads said and when editing patches be sure to play around with mixer panning when you get comfortable. Try some fx panned all right some left - you can get some pretty cool results. -Bill

Distortion and amp simulation
BillBee replied to folante's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
XTL = XT Live :) There is a little switch labeled PAD which will lower a high signal input a bit. Like if you are running EMGs the input signal might start clipping and causing issues with the tones. Like too much distortion, etc.. I don't see any flaws in your plan, the pedal will hit the chain in front just like the XTL's preamp would. Just start low volume/gain and gradually increase it. If memory serves me correctly I used a Tubescreamer Clone and it was pretty good. -Bill -
Distortion and amp simulation
BillBee replied to folante's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Hey there my man and welcome to the forums! I can partially help - years ago I tried it and it can sound pretty good. Setting wise you are going to have to flip on the PAD (IIRC) and have a look at the noise gate as you will be sending in a boosted feed. Keep in mind you will need to set up your amp sim to be pretty clean unless you are wanting to stack gain - which can get pretty noisey. A clean boost pedal in front can help with lower distortion mild type breakup if that's what you are after. Live? nope defeated why I had the XTL which was to simplify setup and travel - bought the Metal Pack and loved it. -Bill -
Fbv Express Mkii doesn't work after spiderIV update
BillBee replied to huancar's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Be sure you have your HD Bean setup for the Express (though for the tuner to work Expres Mode has to be off). So don't give up hope, yet. First off I would try another cable. This is the FAQ page for the FBVs: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/fbv-mki-mkii-controllers/fbvshortboardexpressfbv2-mk-i-and-ii-contr-r506 Did you go through the recalibration? FBV Express Mk. II: 1) Hold D while powering on the FBV. Upon release, the pedal display will read “1â€. 2) Press and hold the pedal toeswitch until the 7 segment display changes to “2â€. This should occur instantly. 3) Set the heel to the heel (minimum) position, press the D button. The 7 segment display will change to “3â€. 4) Set the toe position (maximum) and press the D button. The tuner LEDs above the 7 segment display will light. 5) Move the pedal and verify that the tuner LEDs sequentially turn off as the pedal moves to the minimum position, and refills when moved to the maximum position. 6) Press D to exit You may want to go through the software reinstallation again too - in case it did not go correctly. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects-controllers/fbv-mki-mkii-controllers/fbv-mk-ii-express-and-shortboard-software-update-r295 You can always send in a support ticket: http://line6.com/support/tickets/ -Bill- 8 replies

I route it to a neutral amp or use headphones myself but I remember this post but never tried it: You could give it a shot. -B Re: Getting the Podhd 500 to play through com speakers? by John3379 on 2011-08-15 08:38:46 Actually you can route the sound through your computer speakers, all you have to do is go to the control panel and find Line 6 Audio-MIDI Devices and open the window and you will see your pedal with some options, right under the driver window you should see a box of text with a button labeled Sound Control Panel, if you click on that then go to the recording tab and double-click the digital audio interface that is labeled 2- Line 6 POD HD500 etc. and then the digital audio interface properties will open and you will go to the listen tab and there will be a box labeled listen to this device, check that box and click apply and you should be able to hear it.

IIRC that Ibby model had IBZs by DiMarzio and should be pretty hot too :) Love the Super Ds myself but man do they like to squeal. PUs do a mag field (kind of like a flame dancing above a wick) and you can vary the strength of the fields effect by adjusting the point of where the strings pass through it. Too high can pull too much and actually lessen sustain just like way too low won't have enough. But you can drop them to lower the intensity without killing the tone or sustain (noticably). Keeping the strings in the sweet spot with minor adjs. I wouldn't change too many things at one time though as you will drive yourself crazy. FWIW I would keep reducing the gain on the TS but keep its volume up. There will be a point where you can't get further reduction then you should look at trying addition steps. -B

Yep it is what it is. A basic drum machine would have been nice too - for noodling around. But I have hope for the future - at the least an onboard mp3 player or similar would suffice (load em up via usb). Start stop next FS assignment the usual would make it easy. -B

So when you turn the XTL on the packs don't flash on the start up screen? Even after you went through the license manager and made sure the XTL was selected and authorized (this will show what is what as far as whats authorized in the screen)? If no to the above, you should reflash the unit and start fresh (back up your patches first): Q: How do I reflash my PODxt unit? 1. Download and install the latest version of Line 6 Monkey from the following link: www.line6.com/software 2. Run the Line 6 Monkey program and log into Line 6 Monkey using your Line 6 user name and password. If this is the first time you have run Line 6 Monkey, you will not have driver software installed. Highlight the "Driver" item in the Updates window, and click the Update button on the right. Monkey will lead you through the installation process, which requires you to quit Monkey and possibly restart your machine. See the following link for more information on driver installation. 3: Make sure your PODxt unit is powered on and connected to your computer via a USB 2.0 connection. Monkey should automatically recognize your PODxt and complete the startup sequence. See the following link for USB troubleshooting tips if Line 6 Monkey does not recognize your PODxt unit. 4. On the Updates tab, look to see if your Flash Memory is up to date. If it is out of date, you will see a yellow "yield" sign next to flash memory. If you need to update (or just want to reset the unit back to factory state for troubleshooting) select "Flash Memory" (it will highlight in blue) and click the "Update Selection/Reinstall Latest" button to the right. Monkey will lead you through the process. Monkey will give you an option to continue: Monkey will then ask if you want to keep your presets. If you do not want to keep the presets (or have already backed up your presets), select "no". Monkey will now update your unit after you select "yes". Be sure to close all other applications and heed the warnings. You will see the progress bar writing the flash to your unit Restart your POD XT unit by powering the unit off, then back on. When the update is complete you will receive a message stating it installed sucessfully. That should do it. -B

I have to agree with PJ, stack your chain and you should get some heavy palm muted chugginess, remember the cab will also affect it. Ahhhh I have to dust off the ole DoD Deathmetal pedal. :) -B

Low input levels on UX1/Pod farm
BillBee replied to mxracer591's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Does the green light go on for the UX1? if so its connected as it should be. Try going into windoze control panel (I'm still running XP but it should be similar) make sure in the sound devices that the UX1 is the ins/out. IF Pod Farm 2 is authorized for the UX1 then it should be good. Should work with PF1 and Gearbox too IIRC. Try a different usb cable and if thats a no go - try another usb port. The L6 stuff gets picky on ports. BTW (and you will love this) try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and there are 32/64 bit versions. Tough to say if its the unit over a forum - sorry about that. -Bill -
Good luck my man! Hope this one takes!!! -Bill

Low input levels on UX1/Pod farm
BillBee replied to mxracer591's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Yep you should be cranking away hmmm... and this is on all patches? and that volume knob on the GX is cranked open? Are you using PF 1 or 2? and you tried another guitar cable too? I think its probably a setting issue with PF - I know that the input levels can show they are low but PF can still crank out the volume. Though its been a few since I sat down with PF. Open up the mixer view and see if you can boost your output there I think there is a 18db boost button. There are some pretty good PF dudes here who will probably pop by. -B -
Low input levels on UX1/Pod farm
BillBee replied to mxracer591's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Can you explain this a bit differently? I am not sure if its that you cannot hear your guitar through the amp/monitors/headphones or that Pod Farm isn't picking up your Preamp and granting "the crunch". How are you monitoring sound? What version of Pod Farm? PC/Mac? -Bill -
Try it again JIC: hold down the 'down' button on the directional keypad and power up the pod without the USB connected. Then connect it to Monkey and attempt to reflash it. I would not save your patches at this point and let the complete reset go forward in case there is a bad one in there causing the problems (just a thought). Hopefully you backed them up already so you can restore them later. Now if none of that works: try a different usb cable (and check the HDs port for bent pins etc) on different ports. All else fails try it on a different PC if you can. Sometimes its not the Pods fault but a system issue. All else fails: http://line6.com/support/tickets/ Yep you have to go this route. Hope it gets going! Bill

Hey there John, What about this one? Were you able to get that one resolved? If the safe mode reflash doesn't fix it you should do a couple of things. Try a different usb cable trying different ports then try a different PC if you can. However when in doubt you can always shoot a support ticket in: http://line6.com/support/tickets/ Hope that helps! Hey Again, A few ideas if you are going to tweak your patch. Copy that puppy to another slot so you keep the original intact. Try running the TS with 0 gain but leave the volume cranked to feed the preamp model. Second assign amp gain to the exp pedal so toe down is at your max it should be easier to find that balance point and at the least avoid bending over to twist knobs :) -B
-
If Pod Farm 2 is not authorizing under a license for the UX2 then 9/10 it never had one BUT Pod Farm 1 is real sweet and will run with all your model packs. The input setting is on the left hand side midway down (drop down menu). You should give that puppy a spin as its no extra $. Rock On! Bill

If you need Gearbox you can get it here: http://line6.com/software/?submit_form=set&name=GearBox I would run the L6 License Manager too (get it from the link) to make sure your UX2 is authorized for PF2 as you might be only able to run PF 1. You should be able to set up the UX2 in PF (not at home so I can't tell you off hand but it should be there). -B

Hey my man, I am no expert but when I was looking at the 4CM I found this: http://www.blackstaramps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=487&start=20 (Took me a while to search that back up) :) Basically input gain and loop placement. All that info is on this site btw but one link was easier (the 4ME method - har har). Hope that helps ya! Bill -> runs an HD into a power amp FWIW

You could try setting Input 2 to variax which will lower the input gain. Go here for a real good analysis: http://line6.com/support/topic/4586-pod-hd500-hd500x-input-settings-phase-issue-myth-and-facts-single-input-vs-both-inputs/ Another good one: http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/74045 Have you tried the PAD setting or changing the Input 1 Z? - but look at where it is set and increase it but watch for a drop in sustain. Another thing to look at would be the EQ if you are fighting the drums (cymbals and kick and/or bass guitar). At home I can dial in a real nice scooped sound but in a band mix things have to go to ear splitting volumes to get that EQ curve to be heard. So with the band the scoop goes to a bell shape to pump up the mid range which is where the guitar owns the MHz without the volume otherwise needed. Just some ideas and welcome to the board! Bill

Hey PW - the MK I board works as well and can be less $ if its something to screw around with. I honestly couldn't tell you if the HDx vx the HD has any tonality difference or more mojo :) But I will say the increased DSP can come in handy at times. I leave the HD Bean connected at home to save me from uncasing and set up as it allows for easy access for general noodling. The HD500 can get the converted tones dumped in when ready and back into the case for travel. Hopefully the Bean is an easy "cheap" fix for you. Old Ibanez's have went up pretty good - some gear gets labeled vintage while I just get old *sigh* :) Hope it all goes good! Bill
