dual action truss rod on jtv59
Smashcraaft replied to grumol's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Give the neck some time to settle after every quarter rotation. It could need hours or even a day in some cases, especially when you adjust a baseball bat, like the neck of the 59. -
Hi. I bought a used POD HD500 as a backup for my 500x. The POD is in really good conditions, except the Patch/Bank Selector Knob, which was declared as broken and non-functional in the auction (got it for about 160 USD). The loose Patch/Bank Selector Knob is not really a problem because I am still able to switch the banks. For that reason I use the last patch in every setlist (16D) to copy "jump-patches" from one to another. If you f.e. copy a empty patch from your last setlist to the first, the POD automaticly switches from the source to the target-setlist. This tip was provided by the seller of my device and I found it really useful. What I like to ask is, how I can get nearby the Patch & Bank Selector Knob, to take a look if it could be fixed the easy way. Are the screws nearby the display the way to go? Or do I have to open the POD from the bottom. Otherwise I would only like to fixate it, to avoid further damage of the electronics nearby the knob.

Midsong patch switch from rhythm to lead tone
Smashcraaft replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
@kinglerch I did understand already but the problems occur if you have to switch to another patch (f.e. Clean) and the pedal is (f.e.) down, which results in a volume loss, if the pedal is assigned to volume. That's all one has to keep in mind using a floating pedal switch from Crunch to Lead tone. -
Midsong patch switch from rhythm to lead tone
Smashcraaft replied to Indianrock2020's topic in POD HD
@kinglerch I like the idea of choosing in between a tonal range of a rhythm and lead tone just in one patch but the usage of the expression-pedal has traps I am not getting around. Let's say I choose my lead tone at a pedal position of 75% to toe and I need a pure clean-tone afterwards. In that case my clean-tone will be at a level of only 75 % if I have the volume assigned to the pedal in the clean patch. Or is there a way to ignore the pedal position in a patch and let it start at 100 % upon the switch? I am not aware of this except when I am USB connected to HD Edit. I am still getting my head around that problem, trying to design my banks and patches a way it works for me, without the need for a extra bank per song. But to be honest I am pretty sure a player who is used to hot-step a bunch of analog pedals would laugh at my inability ;) -
Hi. Can someone please verify the behavior of the chosen input-type of a patch. I have a traditional e-guitar, a Variax 600 and a JTV-59 and I have recognised a strange behavior, I would like to understand. For every type of listed guitar I have a setlist with similar patches and every setlist contains patches where the input-type (guitar, variax, variax mags) is chosen on the level of the preset (not global). I thought this would be necessary to get the different guitar-types to work. Today I recognised that I was playing in a wrong setlist on my POD HD500 (backup-device, no X) using a VDI-cable. This was my main setlist where I have selected "Variax Mags" as the on and only input (2. is the unused "Aux"). So I wondered why there ever was a tone and I could switch models too? So I like to ask if there is a fallback logic which I can count on, so I can reduce the needed setlists to a minimum. I recognised that "Variax Mags" allows a fallback to "Variax". But what about playing with Input "Variax Mags" and storing a chosen model and/or tune when playing my JTV? Does the stored state overwrite the chosen input-type on a preset-base? And is there the possibility to fallback to "guitar" if I play a "Variax" or "Variax Mags" preset too? Unfortunately I am not able to test this by myself because I have left my POD HD500x and my two other guitars at rehearsal and just have my POD HD500 and my V600 in reach for the next week. I always play VDI-cables on both Variax. Thank you in advance, Sascha

Are you sure? I could swear that the name is send directly to the POD after you hit return :/

You can use the onboard looper as well to record a riff and tweak your tone in realtime. Should be much easier but you have to put the looper in pre position IMHO.

I do like the onboard cabs as they seem to offer enough options for me. I am reducing my patches to a minimum at the moment. My goal is to get a max of two basic tones per gain-type (High gain, Crunch). What I found very enlightening / a good playground was locating my favorit tones (tones I allways come back to) and trying to match them just by using another nearby cab/mic combination. So I listen to similar sounding stock cabs (you will find 1-5 in most cases) duplicate my favorite tone and try to get even closer to the source by choosing a fitting mic to that cab. Of course there is no way to get 100 % to my original favorite tone ... but sometimes you get further than your old favorite! This way the onboard-cabs offer me the possibility to find something "subtile" in the depth of the tone I would not have searched for nor found by tweaking the amp or EQs. Not easy to explain in my poor English but I do hope someone tried that himself before feeling sick about the cabs and mics. There are nice pairings you can find if you try to mimic a good tone in a different way.

JTV 69 Korean vs US

LOL same here on a 59! That drives me crazy ;) -
AFAIK the COSM technology is not a static technology and was improved from generation to generation. It was introduced way back in 1995 so if you compared a VG8 to the POD HD I am pretty sure the POD was much better ;)

Error (Code 8000303c) Unable to authorize your device

ideascale suggestion "Authorized Devices - please allow more than 4 devices by default" https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Authorized-Devices-please-allow-more-than-4-devices-by-default/895532-23508 * by the way: I wonder why they seems to have limited the Authorized Devices to 4 because I could find some threads here where they talk about a default value of 10 - 7 replies

… and nobody you know has an account, you could use for this one reason? Unlikely. There is always a way but it is not always the easy one.

Can you please tell me your ticket-ID so I can refer on to your case?

If you start with the POD HD Edit please keep in mind that there are some bugs and glitches. You will find some of them reported here http://line6.com/support/topic/19937-hd-edit-226-collection-of-known-issues/ The best way is to learn how to use the send & receive options and how to identify the glitches. And please backup your setlist often and with clear timestamps in your local folder structure! I do my backups into a cloud-service to have them accessible at rehearsal and gigs too.

... but the amp sims will not sound as good as they could through an amp. That's why most of us took the step and play direct to PA with a good monitoring our own active FRFR speakers.

Stevic, the founder of Shuriken Guitars has a Facebook page which you can find searching for ... Attention please.... "Shuriken Guitars" ;) You would be best to ask there for details.

Exact the same behavior here. Don't hold you breath depending on Line6 to publish any bug fixes. They are still producing and selling, but unfortunately I am sure, they don't invest anymore time in the HD.

I am a little bit unsure if we are talking about the same issue but I get a receive-patches timeout every time I start HD Edit.Using the "Receive all" function works but I do not understand the reason why it has to be tickled this way.

.. and put input 1 to Guitar and input 2 to an unused device on the POD (like Variax or Aux in each patch (or global)).

Hi Almidis. Not sure if there could be found something usable here (about switching a ENGL Savage Z-7 combination with a floorboard) http://line6.com/support/topic/26914-floarboard-searching-for-a-minimal-solution-midi-send-noisegate/

Floarboard - searching for a minimal-solution (MIDI-Send / Noisegate)
Smashcraaft replied to Smashcraaft's topic in POD HD
No complaints with the GT-6 being used as a MIDI-Controller to switch amp-channels on a ENGL with the Z-7 MIDI-Interface attached. Furthermore we use the Noise Suppressor on the ENGL HighGain-Channel and some usual Effects like delay and Wah. Still getting used to functions but everything turns out to be fine. Effects and modeling are better than expected as the device was released in 2001. It is really fun to operate a device from "decades ago" ;)- 16 replies
