Are you monitoring through powered PA speakers, studio monitors, headphones, etc...?
-
Do a factory reset and see if that fixes it. If not, update again. It happens sometimes. If you get any interruption of the transfer of firmware over USB, something can be corrupted. It is the nature of the beast of firmware upgrades for ALL devices.

4 cable method doesn’t work on my Mesa Boogie lone star special

Are you saying you are trying to change the channel on your Lonestar amp with the FX send/return block? -
I tried the boutique pack. I had time to play around with the Lonestar preset. I have never used parametric EQ in any of my presets before because I never used any EQ in any of my "real" guitar rigs in the past. So when I first loaded their preset I bypassed everything except for the amp and IR as I usually do. It sounded pretty good, no better than my go to Lonestar preset. Then I turned on one of the EQs before the amp and WOW. I got the strat sparkle and chime I have been chasing for a while, so now I will start playing around with that in various places in my signal chain while tweaking some of the parameters. And...I really like the IRs that were provided with the preset pack. So for $15, I got some nice sounding presets, really good sounding/feeling IRs, and learned what a parametric EQ can do for my tone.

I didn't seem to get the email this time with the new release

Yes, cycle power on your Helix after importing presets that are created in an older version of firmware. When you do that you will see "Rebuilding Preset xxx" for each of the new imported presets. You "should" be good to go after that. I have had corrupt presets before that would do strange things, and the strange things would disappear after deleting that preset.

Post a pic of your preset screen so we can see how it's set up.

If you are not doing anything crazy like 100' cables, then don't worry about it. I use LiveWire instrument cables from Guitar Center because they are relatively cheap, readily available, and they will exchange it for free if you have an issue with one.

There are lots of videos out there that will show you not only the proper cable setup, but how to set up send/return in your preset as well.

There is not a Hot Rod Deluxe amp model in Helix. The model you are using to try to replicate it is the Twin Reverb model. You may get close, but you may not be able to "nail it".

I play at church through IEM's. I purchased two JBL EON 610s to build my presets on at "live" volume levels. I rarely have to make any adjustments going from home to church live. At the time I found a deal on Amazon for a speaker, stand, and cable for $325, so I bought two. I will be buying some high end IEM's soon and I will experiment with building a fresh preset using the high end IEMs to see how well they translate in the PA live. I am hoping they will translate well so that I can build presets at home while the family is asleep.

Can you post a picture of your preset? sounds like you have a branch around your preamp that you are feeding clean signal to so you have your amps preamp signal and a clean signal going to your effect return on your amp.
-
Yes, install the latest version. What version firmware is your Helix hardware on?
-
factory default parameters for particular amp models will be different from each manufacturer. It is only an issue if you are just going to use amp models with their default settings. However, that's not why we use modeling gear. If we want more/less mid range, then we adjust accordingly.

I use an external expression pedal to change drive/gain parameters so that they are not instantaneous, therefore not creating the pops.

I am not sure where "someone" got the 300 charges from. I have been using mine for about a year and I do the very same thing you do. No issues with charging yet. All rechargeable batteries do have a definite lifespan though, so at some point you will need to replace it.

4cm allows you to either use your real amp's preamp, or to use the Helix preamps (or multiple preamps), put effects in front of the preamp, and put effects after the preamp. I believe 4cm will accomplish everything you mentioned.
-
For the snapshot creating the pop, what parameters are you controlling with that snapshot and what values are you changing those parameters to? With some amp models, if you make an extreme change in the drive and/or master volume parameters, you will get a popping noise.

You can't do it both ways with just a single stomp

The best reproductions of the 2290 are from TC Electronic themselves. The Flashback does a pretty good job IMO. I had the Flashback X4 for a while and the 2290 Mod delay was a factory preset.

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^ For everyone not happy with the on board tuner (like myself), use a different tuner. Problem solved, next thread please...

Open a support ticket with Line 6.

You just have to work with what you have. Here is how I do it at church: 1. Waiting for next song more than 4 minutes, G10 goes into sleep mode. 2. I KNOW that G10 will be in sleep mode. I always look at the G10 indicator LED to see the status before playing. 3. I roll back my volume pedal to ensure I am not sending signal to the mixing console. 4. Turn up the volume pot on guitar. 5. Hit the strings 6. G10 wakes up 7. Turn up volume pedal, play. That entire process takes about 4 seconds. If I forget to do that, it is my own fault. I don't suggest that Line 6 adds motion sensors, buttons, or anything like that. I know how the equipment works, and I can control when it comes out of sleep mode. The key to using ANY piece of equipment effectively is to understand how it works, and make it work for you.
