HX EFFECTS FAQ Ugh, I don't wanna READ. Can't I just watch some videos? Paul Hindmarsh's Intro Video (5:57): Learning 80% of HX Effects in less time than it takes to listen to Never Gonna Give You Up (3:23): FAQs are for unwashed plebeians; can I just have the full manual? HX Effects Cheat Sheet (PDF): https://line6.com/da... - English .pdf HX Effects Owner's Manual (PDF): https://line6.com/da... - English .pdf Is there preset compatibility between Helix and HX Effects? No preset compatibility between HX Effects and Helix Floor/Rack/LT/Native. Is this the new M13 or M9? Not really. HX Effects is much more powerful and flexible (and way deeper!) than M-Class processors. So then it's an effects-only version of Helix? Closer. HX Effects is designed for the guitarist and bassist who embraces traditional amp and pedalboard rigs. What effects does it have? HX Effects has all 117 effects models from Helix. In addition, we've included a Legacy library of 77 effects from M13, M9, M5, DL4, MM4, FM4, and DM4. It does not have any amp or cab blocks; however, it can load impulse responses (IRs) for parallel stage+FOH routings and acoustic guitar body resonance. Aww man, why couldn't you give us just one amp model block? This box ain't for you, my friend. It's for your bandmates who love their real amps and pedals (like many of those who work at Line 6!). Will HX Effects have the new reverbs (and Multi Pass delay) from the Helix 2.50 update? Update it to 2.50 and it will. As 2.50 wasn't finished when the first run of HX Effects was manufactured, initial shipping units may still be at 2.40. Download the latest version of Line 6 Updater here: www.line6.com/downloads How many effects can HX Effects run at once? Up to nine, DSP permitting. Can the effects be in any order? Yes. There's a special Signal Flow menu for moving blocks around and routing them to parallel Path B, but for day-to-day operation, you just plug in and play. Could I throw this in the loop of my Helix to add additional DSP horsepower? I suppose you could, and with a single MIDI cable the presets would sync by default, but you probably won't need to, as the Legacy effects in Helix firmware 2.50 use notably less DSP. Could I throw this in the loop of my Kemper, Fractal, or Atomic modeler to add a ton of new and classic Line 6 effects? Hmmm, That's actually a pretty neat idea. Want a job? Hold up. Six stomp switches, nine blocks. Why the disparity? You can assign multiple blocks to the same switch and even toggle between them. Plus, you don't have to waste a footswitch on any wah, volume pedal, or FX Loop-as-4-Cable Method blocks. So HX Effects supports 4-Cable Method? There are two mono effects loops (or one stereo effects loop) for inserting your favorite pedals anywhere into HX Effects signal flow and/or connecting to your amp(s) via 4CM or 7CM. There are even templates to get you started. How do I swap footswitch assignments? Touch-hold two footswitches and press OK. Footswitch assignments can be made independent of effects order. I see only three edit knobs. Press for more parameters. Touch an effect switch for one second and parameters spill across the switches so you can see them all at once. What about some of the cooler Helix features like snapshots, Pedal Edit mode, and assigning controllers in 3 seconds? Yes. How many presets and snapshots are there? HX Effects has 128 preset locations, each of which has four snapshots. Does HX Effects have true bypass? Yes. Press MODE and TAP to bypass HX Effects completely, either via analog relays or DSP with reverb and delay trails. Does HX Effects have a looper? Yes. The same looper from Helix can be added as one of the nine available effects. Does HX Effects have amp control outputs? Yes. Each of the two expression pedal inputs can be globally switched to act as a dual amp control output. So a total of four amp controls can be accommodated. Or two amp controls and one expression pedal. Or two expression pedals. Or neither, if you're into the whole brevity thing. Can I use HX Effects to control other pedals? Absolutely, as well as Mac/PC/iOS* software over USB. Stomp mode switches or connected expression pedals can send a variety of MIDI messages and selecting a preset or snapshot can send up to six buffered commands. Just like its bigger brothers, HX Effects wants to be the command center of your guitar or bass rig. *iOS control requires the Apple Camera Connection Kit Can I customize the scribble strip labels and LED colors? I suppose since everyone else and their mom is doing it now , yeah. Is there a Mac/PC editor? The same HX Edit application works with Helix, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, and HX Effects, but when HX Effects is connected, it appears as just a librarian and IR loader for now. Just update it to version 2.50. We expect to update HX Edit with full editing capabilities for HX Effects later this spring. Does HX Effects have an audio interface? No. It's designed for your pedalboard. It will send and receive MIDI data over USB, however. Can I power HX Effects from my DC pedalboard supply? Line 6 only officially supports operation with the included DC-3G. Using any power supply other than that supplied by Line 6 will void your warranty. Line 6 is not responsible for any damage incurred when using HX Effects with any third-party power supplies. HX Effects requires 2A bare minimum of clean DC. It uses a 2.5mm pin where most others use a 2.1mm pin. What's the meaning of life? Be excellent to each other. San Dimas High School Football rules. Dimensions/weight? Is it smaller than M9? 10.8"w x 7.9"d x 2.8"; 4.75lbs HX Effects is about 1/4" wider than M9 and maybe an inch deeper. It's as small as we could possibly make it. What's the price? HX Effects sells for $599.99 US MAP. When's it shipping? HX Effects is in select North American dealers now; we expect it to appear in Europe and the rest of the world in mid-to-late February. If you snag one now, remember to update it to 2.50! Line 6 is not responsible for any damage incurred when using HX Effects with any third-party power supplies.

In the context above, "distribute directly" means "sell to retailers", not "ship to countries from the factory". Each country/territory has its own distributor that we ship to, who then sets the warranty based on local laws. They control that, not us. Since we only distribute in the US, we can only affect warranty in the US. We feel it would be great if they all followed suit with a program like this, but we can't force them to. For more details on your area's warranty options, check with your country's distributor, found at www.Line6.com/find/distributor.

As you know, we have put a great deal of focus on our customer service/support and communication over the last couple of years. We have set very high expectations for ourselves when it comes to turning around Helix issues and repairs and striving for best-in-class service in general. Today, we are announcing two new US-only service products: Helix Service Plus extended Factory service plan (two options). Helix Advance Replacement. This is a product that allows you to buy coverage by the year and if your Helix should require service, you will have a loaner unit sent next business day anywhere in the continental US in advance of your repair. Because we only distribute directly in the US that is the only region we can offer these products. As we just crossed the two-year mark since first customer shipment, there are a wave of US Helix units just coming out of warranty and we will be emailing those customers with this offer (we will continue to automatically email you as your warranty expires). Now you can have up to five years of coverage for your Helix; two years free with registration and up to three additional years purchased after that. We put a lot of thought into just how critical Helix has become to many of our customers and we do not take that lightly. We want you to rest easy knowing that we are here if you need us. Please follow the link to find out more and read the FAQs. Let us know what you think! http://shop.line6.com/service-products/ Line 6 Customer Support

macOS 10.13/10.14/10.15/11.4 has implemented an additional security layer for kernel extension drivers, such as the Line 6 audio drivers. After the Line 6 device is connected, the customer must open the Security Control Pane and accept the Line 6 driver in order for the device to be recognized. Typically, but not always you'll see this message when your driver gets blocked, or is not available for use with your DAW: However, sometimes the driver gets blocked and the message won't appear. Your driver and hardware simply won't work. In either case, you'd need to approve the driver in System Preferences > Security & Privacy: Additional information about this change can be found at https://developer.apple.com/library/content/technotes/tn2459/_index.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS40017658 For some cases if the "Allow" button does not change anything, or the "Allow" button does NOT disappear after clicking. Please try these steps: Go into: System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Select 'All Controls'. Then: Go back to System Preferences > Privacy & Security > Press 'Tab' until 'Allow' is selected > Press 'Spacebar'. Note: the Privacy & Security page may need to be unlocked before 'Tab' will work.

Is there any difference from the extended warranty that I have from my retailer? The main difference is that customers are dealing directly with Line 6 and Line 6’s network of repair centers. Do You Have The Same Problem With 6th String?
Line6Tony replied to chstd's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Here is our final response to this phenomenon: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/james-tyler-variax-guitars/clang-tone-on-variax-guitars-r863 -
Clang tone, a.k.a. plink tone, a subtle ringing pitched sound caused by the longitudinal wave travelling along the string, is a phenomenon inherent to all vibrating tensioned strings. Piezos and microphones can pick up clang tone, but magnetic pickups will not. Variables that may exacerbate clang tone include: · Piezo saddles that are not properly seated · Playing techniques · High-gain amps or high-gain amp model usage · The strings themselves · The individual composition of the guitar · The setup of the guitar or any combination of these contributors. As such, there is no one-size-fits-all way to address the clang tone phenomenon. With Variax being a piezo-based guitar, we've built filters into the firmware to address clang tone. We have recently reviewed these filters and have come to the conclusion that they are already optimized, and further adjustments to the filters would not be beneficial. Each case of clang tone is unique, so we cannot guarantee that any or all of the actions below, when performed by Line 6-authorized service technicians or a luthier, will result in addressing clang tone: · Running the latest firmware (v2.22 or newer) · Replacing strings · Using at least a .010 gauge string set. · Cleaning out the cutout in the saddle where the piezo element sits (use pot/fader cleaner, not WD40) · Replacing piezos (available at www.FullCompass.com, part number 11-00-0010) If none of these actions resolve the issue, please contact Line 6 support at www.Line6.com/support, detailing your actions taken, if any.

If your Helix pedal squeaks or is loose and using the Allen wrench won't help, DON'T spray anything into your Helix. Instead, see this article's instructions and video: Please be aware that this is NOT for the Helix LT.
-
NOTE: Please be aware that this is NOT for the Helix LT. The instructions contained in the document below illustrate how to resolve loosening and squeaking that may be encountered with your Helix® floor processor's built-in expression pedal. Line 6 recommends that this maintenance be performed by an Authorized Service Center. Please note that while opening your Helix to perform this maintenance does not void your warranty, attempting this procedure yourself is done at the risk of potentially damaging the unit. NOTE: We have discovered that the Cabinet Modeling switch is producing unintended results. We have fixed this in firmware 1.04, available very soon. Please download and use Line 6 Updater, found at www.Line6.com/software, to update your amp. See this article for updating instructions: How To Update the Spider V Amp The Cabinet Modeling switch was added so that if you don't want to run your guitar signal in full range with cabinet modeling, you can disable it for just the external speaker outputs. A good example for when to use this is if you have your own particular cabinet and you want to hear the natural sound of that cabinet with no cabinet modeling applied (like a traditional amp head). You can still use the direct outputs if need be in a live situation (common for our older amp products like DT50). With no external cabinet: The switch has no function. Cabinet modeling remains engaged regardless of the switch position. With an external cabinet plugged into the speaker outputs: The switch toggles cabinet modeling for the guitar signal that's sent to the speaker outputs. Switch is ON - Spider V treats the external cabinet and built-in tweeters as a full range system for guitar signals, with cabinet modeling applied in the preset. It also allows full range playback for built-in drum loops, the aux input, and USB playback. Switch is OFF - Spider V disables the cabinet block within the preset and sends the processed mono or stereo guitar signal to only the external speaker outputs. Its built-in speakers are turned off. The XLR, USB and Headphone outputs are fed with a guitar signal that is summed to mono and processed with a Spider 4x12 cabinet and SM 57 microphone model. These outputs can be used for recording or as a feed for a mixing board when playing live. Additional Information - The built-in 4" low-frequency speakers in the head switch off as soon as an external cabinet is connected. - All playback such as drum loops, the aux input and USB playback will continue to play through both the external cabinet and the built-in tweeters, regardless of the switch position.

What is Echo Farm 3.0 ? Echo Farm is a 64-bit delay modeler plug-in for the Pro Tools 11+ AAX Native platform. It offers 12 different delay models based on a combination of actual hardware devices and Line 6 originals and provides simple and effective controls for delay time, repeats, and other specialized parameters, such as magnetic head pattern or bit reduction. Echo Farm was introduced in the year 2000 as a Pro Tools TDM plug-in and became extremely popular, used on a multitude of award-winning records and soundtracks. Due to popular demand, we now make Echo Farm available as an AAX Native plug-in. When will Echo Farm be available and how much will it cost? Echo Farm 3.0 is available now through the Line 6 online store. The standard AAX license costs $199. What are the OS requirements? Mac OS Mountain Lion version 10.8.3 and higher Windows 7 and higher Is there an upgrade path to the AAX version? Yes there is, for registered 2.x TDM owners. The upgrade from 2.x TDM to 3.0 AAX costs $49. Both the 2.x TDM and the 3.0 AAX Echo Farm licenses need to be associated with the same iLok account for the upgrade to work. Will I have to surrender my Echo Farm TDM license when I activate the AAX license? Yes, the TDM license will be surrendered and voided when the AAX license is activated. This is irreversible. The AAX license will not authorize the TDM plugin. How can I tell if I own the 2.x TDM version? If you can see an Echo Farm license in the iLok License Manager program, you qualify. From Digidesign's archive: Echo Farm 2.0 or higher requires iLok authorization Beginning in December, 2002, all registered Echo Farm owners that purchased the older retail version of Echo Farm that shipped with floppy key disk authorizations were automatically sent Echo Farm 2.0 update kits with the installer CD and an iLok License Card. Is an iLok device required to use Echo Farm 3.0? Yes, it requires a version 2 or version 3 iLok device. Echo Farm 3.0 cannot use your computer alone as an authorizing device. Can I try it before I buy it? Yes. A time-limited demo version of Echo Farm 3.0 can be activated at line6.com/ilok. What changed in Echo Farm between the TDM and AAX version? Are there any new delay models? Our design goal was to provide 100% session compatibility and ensure that older projects open smoothly in Pro Tools 11 and higher. For this reason, we kept the Echo Farm AAX feature set unchanged from the TDM version. However, the AAX version now supports sampling rates up to 192 kHz, which was not possible with the older TDM version. What are your plans for an AAX DSP version of Echo Farm? We plan to release the plug-in on the AAX Native platform initially and evaluate demand for AAX DSP subsequently. Will Echo Farm AAX work with Pro Tools 10? Echo Farm AAX is a 64-bit plug-in and thus requires Pro Tools 11 or higher to function. What about Amp Farm? Will you port Amp Farm to AAX, too? Absolutely. We plan to make Amp Farm available for the AAX platform after the release of Echo Farm. At this time, we cannot comment on specifics related to pricing or availability.
