  1. Hi all, I was 99% settled on selling off my amp, cab and pedalboard in favour of a Helix, until I realised I would still want to use my G30 wireless system. I'm currently using a TC Electronic G System, which has four super convenient 9v power outputs for powering pedals in it's various loops. I was frankly amazed at what looks like a huge oversight in the design of the Helix, that while it is designed to be an "all-in-one" solution it does have the option to loop in other pedals yet has no solution to provide power to them. I'm really obsessive about cable management and having everything as neat and tidy as possible on my pedalboards, so the absolute last thing I am willing to do is have some ugly power strip on the back of a pedalboard not only wasting space but also cluttering it up just for the sake of 1 9v power adapter for my wireless. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced product which might offer a tidy and effective power solution to both the 240v Helix requirement, and a single 9v requirement?? Huge thanks in advance!!! Liam

    Midi 2.0

With the arrival of midi 2.0, got a question/idea/ discussion topic. Will Line6 be able to just upload this into the helix? Can you imagine how game changing this could be? Is this going to be in 2.9 maybe? I am very clumsy with midi, this looks to be a huge step towards a more user friendly format. https://www.musicradar.com/news/midi-20-spec-confirmed-the-biggest-advance-in-music-technology-in-decades?utm_content=buffer1f963&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=buffer-musicradarfb
  3. WHY does the harmonizer sound sooo bad? Hi Guys, so really want to know how you are making the harmonizer sound good. If you insert it 'post amp' like effects like delay ..you get stereo and two harmony and cool stuff like panning ..but damm it sounds awful... The only way I have gotten Harmony working decently is to put it in front of one of two amps (dual setup) and set the mix to 100%. I cant use the dual harmony that way unless i just only use one part harmony. Harmonizing an amp sounds really bad in my opinion and while sure i can find use for it..its not solution. How are you making it sound great?
  4. I have two Helix floor units, one for gigs and one for studio. I prefer Preset Mode Switches set up with Snap/Stomp mode. But quite a few number of times now the unit (either one) suddenly changes to Preset/Stomp mode. This always freaks me out and is especially troublesome while on a gig since I rely on Snap/Stomp mode heavily.. Is there some footswitch combination I'm inadvertently triggering that is causing this? It seems like it happens when I reach for an upper snapshot switch and maybe touch one of the lower Stomp switches at the same time. Is there any way to LOCK global settings to prevent this from happening? The only way I know to get it back to normal is to drop to my knees and go into Menu / Global Settings / Footswitches and return the Preset Mode Switches to my preferred setting. Very frustrating. Thanks to anyone who can help or shed light on this.
  5. I am trying to figure out whether or not I should be using the global eq and high and low pass filters while recording out of my cabinet. Should I turn it off and leave it bright and hissy then add HP LP filters in Cubase? or leave it on and add more HP LP filters? Same goes for Compressors in Helix, that is what I am trying to figure out. Or is it based on taste. I only have the Global on in a Live Jam session setting, recording is a different story even my patches need to be dialed in differently to sound better in the daw. Here is my signal path Guitar>Helix Rack>Mesa 50/50 power amp>Mesa Cabinet>Mics>Yamaha Mixer>Focusrite Interface>Cubase 10 Artist No I do not use Impulse Responses (haven't learned) or DI Box. I play Metal
  6. I’ve owned a helix LT for almost a year, the problem I have it since the first days, the presets pre installed sound nothing like in the videos on YouTube...so I gave up on using them, then noticed that when creating a patch, I had to add compressors or ODs before the amp to get a decent distortion... recently I found this user on YouTube called Alex.guitars, and he has this video (link below) where he shows how each amp sounds just with default settings...my helix doesn’t sound even closer to that, there is also another user commenting the same.... I went to this guy webpage and copied this settings on the helix, same...to give you an example, the tweed blues brt at 0:48, It sounds so clean on my helix, I can’t get that driven sound even setting the drive at max. Can someone try the tweeed blues bright with just a low high cut eq (400-5k)and room reverb at the end and let me know if sounds like that? thanks in advance
  7. Hey all, first post so I hope I'm doing this right. I've recently joined the cult of Linux, and am looking to make primarily electronic music through Ubuntu 18.04. I know that some more common audio interfaces have plug-and-play compatibility, but I'm interested in connecting my Helix directly to my DAW (Ardour) via its USB cable. At the time of posting this I haven't actually started messing with configuring this on my own, but figured I should crowdsource experiences others may have had: has anyone had any experience/luck getting the Helix to work with any Linux distro in this way? I tried looking in the Knowledge Base but didn't find any relevant information for this situation.
  8. Please bear with me as I'm pretty novice with this; I'm having issues trying to record the processed sound from my helix. When I first got the unit it worked fine and it was plug and play. I was able to record exactly what I was hearing from my amp. At some point I've managed to change something and I'm not sure what but I no longer get any sound picked up from the helix when recording (it still makes sound through headphones/amp). I'm able to hear and record the dry signal on mono input 7 but every other input is silent on both mono and stereo. I'm using reaper as my DAW and the helix as my interface via USB. I've tried audacity, FL Studio and Pro Tools and they all have the same result. Here are the audio device settings I have in reaper: My helix IO settings are as follows: Guitar Pad: Off Mic In 48v Phantom: Off Mic In Gain: 0db Mic In Low Cut: Off USB in 1/2 Destination: Multi USB in 1/2 trim: 0db 1/4" outputs: Line XLR outputs: Line Send Return 1 - 4: Instrument (Have also tried setting these to line - no difference) Re-amp src USB 7: Guitar re-amp src USB 8: Mic Volume Control Knobs: Multi Headphone monitor: multi Digital output: S/PDIF Digital Out level: 0db Sample rate: 48khz I'm unsure if any other information is required.. Edit: Okay I believe there is something wrong with the patches I have set up. I just switched to a factory preset and it is working. Could somebody tell me what I need to do to this patch to make it record? Edit 2: I changed 1/4" to multi and it's now making noise. I'll leave this here in case anyone else is as dumb as I am.
  9. Hi - I've been using the Helix LT live for about 9 months now, but I've barely scratched the surface of it, so pardon me if these are dumb questions. I'm thinking of adding a synth pedal (EHX Synth9 or Boss SY-1) to emulate some keyboard parts (I've been playing some keyboards on stage, but I'm giving that up). If any of you have tried this setup, how do you rig the pedal with your Helix so that you can have synth only, guitar only, and guitar + synth (with the synth not mixed into the guitar signal but as its own separate signal)? Some of these synth pedals seem quite amazing, and might help me avoide lugging around the 58 pound Alesis QS 8.1 I've been using on about 12 songs per night. Thanks in advance and cheers! J.C.
  10. I used to own a Pod HD with floorboard and was really happy with it until I saw something shiny and "upgraded" to a Firehawk FX. The FH FX is a great concept but I've been really disappointed mostly by the latency when switching patches. There is a large gap of silence, even after the v1.2 update, that just didn't exist on the Pod. The Helix LT looks perfect for me, but I've seen exactly the same latency issues as the FH FX on various YouTube vids and the like. This is a deal breaker, I won't buy Helix if this exists. Can someone please confirm whether this latency when switching patches has been fixed on Helix, or am I going back the old non-shiny-but-perfectly-good Pod HD? Thanks, Jamie
  11. Every time I plug in my Helix, i get BSOD. I followed every trouble shooting step I've seen here and when I called, support had no alternatives to give other than the conclusion that the motherboard was not able to support the device. I called ASUS and they gave me a handful of additional troubleshooting steps that were unsuccessful and it ended, after being escalated 3x, with a "Sorry, that device just isn't compatible." I can plug in all my other midi devices. We tried changing legacy USB settings in Bios. Fiddled with the drivers 900 times (uninstalling, installing one at a time etc.) mobo: ROG Strix Z370E Gaming Midi: Line 6 Helix I'm very frustrated as this issue has been going on for ~20 days and I was hoping to use my Helix as my primary source of tones while getting used to my new DAW to force myself to use it more and become more comfortable. For context, I switched to PC after being a 10ish year mac guy because editing in 4k and multitracking was becoming a nightmare on my imac pro and I have a background in IT using windows devices. Many thanks, J

    HX EFFECTS FAQ

HX EFFECTS FAQ Ugh, I don't wanna READ. Can't I just watch some videos? Paul Hindmarsh's Intro Video (5:57): Learning 80% of HX Effects in less time than it takes to listen to Never Gonna Give You Up (3:23): FAQs are for unwashed plebeians; can I just have the full manual? HX Effects Cheat Sheet (PDF): https://line6.com/da... - English .pdf HX Effects Owner's Manual (PDF): https://line6.com/da... - English .pdf Is there preset compatibility between Helix and HX Effects? No preset compatibility between HX Effects and Helix Floor/Rack/LT/Native. Is this the new M13 or M9? Not really. HX Effects is much more powerful and flexible (and way deeper!) than M-Class processors. So then it's an effects-only version of Helix? Closer. HX Effects is designed for the guitarist and bassist who embraces traditional amp and pedalboard rigs. What effects does it have? HX Effects has all 117 effects models from Helix. In addition, we've included a Legacy library of 77 effects from M13, M9, M5, DL4, MM4, FM4, and DM4. It does not have any amp or cab blocks; however, it can load impulse responses (IRs) for parallel stage+FOH routings and acoustic guitar body resonance. Aww man, why couldn't you give us just one amp model block? This box ain't for you, my friend. It's for your bandmates who love their real amps and pedals (like many of those who work at Line 6!). Will HX Effects have the new reverbs (and Multi Pass delay) from the Helix 2.50 update? Update it to 2.50 and it will. As 2.50 wasn't finished when the first run of HX Effects was manufactured, initial shipping units may still be at 2.40. Download the latest version of Line 6 Updater here: www.line6.com/downloads How many effects can HX Effects run at once? Up to nine, DSP permitting. Can the effects be in any order? Yes. There's a special Signal Flow menu for moving blocks around and routing them to parallel Path B, but for day-to-day operation, you just plug in and play. Could I throw this in the loop of my Helix to add additional DSP horsepower? I suppose you could, and with a single MIDI cable the presets would sync by default, but you probably won't need to, as the Legacy effects in Helix firmware 2.50 use notably less DSP. Could I throw this in the loop of my Kemper, Fractal, or Atomic modeler to add a ton of new and classic Line 6 effects? Hmmm, That's actually a pretty neat idea. Want a job? Hold up. Six stomp switches, nine blocks. Why the disparity? You can assign multiple blocks to the same switch and even toggle between them. Plus, you don't have to waste a footswitch on any wah, volume pedal, or FX Loop-as-4-Cable Method blocks. So HX Effects supports 4-Cable Method? There are two mono effects loops (or one stereo effects loop) for inserting your favorite pedals anywhere into HX Effects signal flow and/or connecting to your amp(s) via 4CM or 7CM. There are even templates to get you started. How do I swap footswitch assignments? Touch-hold two footswitches and press OK. Footswitch assignments can be made independent of effects order. I see only three edit knobs. Press for more parameters. Touch an effect switch for one second and parameters spill across the switches so you can see them all at once. What about some of the cooler Helix features like snapshots, Pedal Edit mode, and assigning controllers in 3 seconds? Yes. How many presets and snapshots are there? HX Effects has 128 preset locations, each of which has four snapshots. Does HX Effects have true bypass? Yes. Press MODE and TAP to bypass HX Effects completely, either via analog relays or DSP with reverb and delay trails. Does HX Effects have a looper? Yes. The same looper from Helix can be added as one of the nine available effects. Does HX Effects have amp control outputs? Yes. Each of the two expression pedal inputs can be globally switched to act as a dual amp control output. So a total of four amp controls can be accommodated. Or two amp controls and one expression pedal. Or two expression pedals. Or neither, if you're into the whole brevity thing. Can I use HX Effects to control other pedals? Absolutely, as well as Mac/PC/iOS* software over USB. Stomp mode switches or connected expression pedals can send a variety of MIDI messages and selecting a preset or snapshot can send up to six buffered commands. Just like its bigger brothers, HX Effects wants to be the command center of your guitar or bass rig. *iOS control requires the Apple Camera Connection Kit Can I customize the scribble strip labels and LED colors? I suppose since everyone else and their mom is doing it now , yeah. Is there a Mac/PC editor? The same HX Edit application works with Helix, Helix Rack/Control, Helix LT, and HX Effects, but when HX Effects is connected, it appears as just a librarian and IR loader for now. Just update it to version 2.50. We expect to update HX Edit with full editing capabilities for HX Effects later this spring. Does HX Effects have an audio interface? No. It's designed for your pedalboard. It will send and receive MIDI data over USB, however. Can I power HX Effects from my DC pedalboard supply? Line 6 only officially supports operation with the included DC-3G. Using any power supply other than that supplied by Line 6 will void your warranty. Line 6 is not responsible for any damage incurred when using HX Effects with any third-party power supplies. HX Effects requires 2A bare minimum of clean DC. It uses a 2.5mm pin where most others use a 2.1mm pin. What's the meaning of life? Be excellent to each other. San Dimas High School Football rules. Dimensions/weight? Is it smaller than M9? 10.8"w x 7.9"d x 2.8"; 4.75lbs HX Effects is about 1/4" wider than M9 and maybe an inch deeper. It's as small as we could possibly make it. What's the price? HX Effects sells for $599.99 US MAP. When's it shipping? HX Effects is in select North American dealers now; we expect it to appear in Europe and the rest of the world in mid-to-late February. If you snag one now, remember to update it to 2.50! Line 6 is not responsible for any damage incurred when using HX Effects with any third-party power supplies.
  13. Hello to forum I am a new user of a Helix. I have a problem. When I change a preset or a snapshot the tails of reverb cut off very abruptly. How can I keep the “feeling” of a previous preset by not cutting the reverb or delays or other effects tails. thanks for hearing me.
  14. Hey guys, Today we have a comparison and sound test to see just how close the Helix technology can get to the real thing. We are comparing the Ibanez TS 808 Tube Screamer to the Line 6 Scream 808 pedal model. Spoiler, it sounds pretty indistinguishable. I recorded a couple riffs, first with the Ibanez TS808 Tube Screamer and then with the Line 6 Scream 808 model inside of Helix or in this case, the HX Stomp. The riffs are taken from my latest single, NAHR-SU-SIZ-EM, which can be found on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp, and everywhere music is sold or streamed.
  15. I used to like the sound of my helix thru headphones. Since i got the Powercab, it sounds so good, I'm left chasing that sound in quiet time. And i feel my headphones are decent cause they sound like i hear it thru my bx5a monitors. I can't get a crisp sound. It seems muddy no matter how i adjust. Any Ideas?
  16. Is there a way to show pedalboard mode in helix edit? I would like to be able to toggle between edit mode and an overview of the pedalboard the way it would be laid out. Is it there and i, just not seeing it?
  17. Hey Guys, I've been trying to make a helix preset where the string volume changes from snapshot to snapshot, and can't seem to make it work. In my case I'm trying to go from a Open G# with string 6 at volume 0% on 3 snapshots, to a standard tuned guitar with all strings 100% volume on the 4th snapshot. The tuning changes fine per snapshot, but the string volume remains at 100%. I know I can work around this through workbench, but I shouldn't have to, it's supposed to work. My input variax setting is - "per preset". I've checked every global setting and have found nothing that should effect it. Guitar is JTV59, flash memory 2.23, Helix 2.82. Has anybody made a preset with snapshots changing string volumes? I noticed, if I leave the preset, and return, it works temporarily, the 6th string is dead (which is what I want) in snapshot 1... But as soon as I go to any other snapshot, the volume goes back to 100% on all the snapshots.
  18. I Posted this topic under Helix, but had no success, so since it is also a Variax topic, I thought I would try here too... 20. I have a 2018 Macbook Pro and up until about 2 weeks ago, the DAW I use and HX edit doesn't recognize my HX Stomp. Is this likely because of a problem with Catalina? If so, when will it be fixed? Anyone else experiencing this problem?
  21. I have a G10 to a Helix, running into a Powercab Plus with Line 6 Link without issue. I also have Helix running XLR stereo out to a Focusrite Scarlett 18/20. None of this has any issue. I added a Fender Rumbler 25 to practice Bass. Hooked it up with the 1/4" output. Now I hear this computer like hiss that rolls in and out. but just on that amp. I've unhooked EVERYTHING from the Helix and it's still there. Everything is hooked into the same power outlet for ground loop isolation. I've also tried another 1/4" cable and routed it a different way. G10 straight into in the Rumbler has no issues. Checked the 1/4" setting on the Helix and it's set to Instrument. I'm at a loss on what I can do to isolate it. Can I lift the ground wire on the 1/4" or do they make some sort of isolation device for 1/4" . This has to be between the Helix and Rumbler only. Please Help, Mike "

  23. Hey wonder if anyone has experience / advice for this. I want to add in stomp box ( kick drum sound) to my helix LT set up - ideally want to add it as a send /return - ( so i can plug it in to the Helix and also put it through the looper) In a perfect world I also want to be able to set up an EQ that just affects the kick drum sound - can someone tell me how to do this ? - I experimented a bit and got a bit messed up with the signal path etc..... any help appreciated
  24. Hello I'm very new to mutlieffects processors and need some clarification on it's capabilities. I love user made presets and I see the helix has a sizeable collection of artists I really like. The hxstomp has some but not nearly as many. I know the stomp supports 8 blocks in the chain and the helix a few more but, as long as the signal chain is under 8, would I be able to pretty much replicate any user preset that was made for the full helix? Idk if the answer is obvious but I'd like some help from you guys. Thanks if you help out.
  25. Hey I just had a thought the other day about possibly creating a preamp through the HX EFFECTS & am wondering if anyone else has tried this?.. OD/DS Pedal ---> EQ Pedal ---> IR Cabinet Sim The idea is the the OD/DS gives u the preamp while the EQ pedal helps you shape the sound a bit more since the first pedal is limited and than add an IR cab to simulate the desired cabinet.
